time out

I've been down to East Prawle again, with Katie, Barry the gorilla, great mounds of camping gear, and a big Canadian canoe on top of the Trav. Which meant that, when we passed Exeter and began the long ascent of Telegraph Hill, we were down to first gear and a speed of twenty miles an hour. Still, we got there.

Fires, swimming, walking, Cirl Bunting, and so on. Here's a few pictures.

Meanwhile, Richard was in hospital, after sustaining a rather nasty injury to his leg, while playing cricket. Sport. A Bad Thing. Possibly.

  1. I miss that travel at the speed of bike where the landscape ceases to blurr but the rest of the world wants to move at 90mph!

Sport is just silly and dangerous! Who needs to be competitive?

  2. I think that bike speed is the perfect rate at which to travel, now you mention it; any slower and you're at walking pace, when sometimes you can be yearning for a change of scene.

I used to be far more anti sport than I am now; I realised that it is possible to play it and still be an OK person, as I know a couple of OK persons who do play sport. Still....

  3. If they haven't damaged something permanently in one mad moment!

Tens of thousands of miles on the bike nearly wrecked my knees, if I had been doing that as a sport too I would be a total wreck now.

It is the need to dominate an other I find so distasteful.

  4. Great photos, as always! Katie is so "iconic"! Who's her canine friend? Barry the gorilla? Looks like good company. I agree with you about the bicycle, but I've done without one for a couple of years now. Just walking around...in paradise.
