Queue for Banksy Petrol Bomb Art Poster in Stokes Croft 7th May 2011

Saturday saw Hamilton House in Stokes Croft hosting the Anarchist Book Fair. It also saw the selling of Banksy's commemorative poster...proceeds of which will be going to benefit locals affected by the Stokes Croft riots. Which is a Good Thing.

So of course there was a humungous queue for the posters. And AstroTurfer has made a nice film of it, with Mal's interview as a soundtrack. With, as an added bonus, a personal appearance from Mal, though you'll have to look carefully... by the way, it has been confirmed by the police that the security guards (presumably the Shergroup ones) at Tesco had made the claim about petrol bombs.

My rather less famous 'petrol bomb' picture....

...I'm getting a few cards of it printed, as a couple of people have expressed an interest. If you'd like one, do let me know!

Idaho

...it's more than just potato, you know

It turns out that today is the International Day Against Homophobia (and sometimes possibly Transphobia but that would make it IDAHOT which doesn't sound so good)

So here is a short transcript of part of an interview conducted by Anthea Page of Dialect Radio with Toni, of the Bristol LGB Forum, at the Becoming Drusilla launch in Bristol, where she makes some very good and more widely-applicable points

A: Do you think that it's (Richard) who has the problem rather than the public? -I mean a lot of people don't worry... if a man turns into a woman... I think people are quite broad-minded about that...

T: I think some people are, but if we're honest some people will have problems and all of us, in the privacy of our own heads, have to ask "Do I have a problem with that?" -because we'd all like to believe ourselves to be liberal and open-minded but actually.... the liberalism we anoint ourselves with is just a mask... I think a lot of us are prejudiced... there is an identity which you are supposed to conform with and if you do not you are a novelty, an amusement, but not 'somebody I would like my children to hang out with', not 'someone I would invite to dinner....'
The full program can be heard here, and the interview is about 45 minutes into the show

this is the BBC

We were interviewed by Clare English on BBC Radio Scotland's Book Cafe, this lunchtime. Richard was in a studio in London, and I was in Bristol's Whiteladies Road studio, which was a terrifically friendly place; I was invited to a party, I had a nice chat with Peter who looked after me, and when I went into the building I found that they even had one of my photos on the wall. Hey, is this fame or what?

Or what, probably. There was a display of photos from the BBC My Bristol Flickr group, so I saw a few familiar names among the credits; and this was my contribution...

Richard did well; I faltered, and then faltered some more, but the world didn't end.

Thanks to the miracle of Interweb technology, I was able to cycle home and listen to myself. Ouch. Ouch tiddly ouch.

Must think of something intelligent to say for Wednesday.

Here's the link to the programme, if you enjoy the sound of someone tripping up repeatedly. Our contribution starts soon after 20 mins into the show, if you don't want to listen to Misha Glenny. But why wouldn't you?
