The first guide we encountered sat hugely and immobile in the dark parlour of a cottage, so that he seemed on display himself. If I had a job like that, I'd certainly want to be *doing*.

I find listening to Welsh tantalising, Chris; I'd very much like to be able to join in. Maybe I really ought to get learning. Funny to think that it's now taught in all the schools in the part I used to live in...

Hi Suzzy!Dru Marlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03697874363783821382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2448752251053894818.post-24303543005800643802011-12-25T10:07:55.498+00:002011-12-25T10:07:55.498+00:00I can smell it from here :-)I can smell it from here :-)suzzymackenziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14334149681897991297noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2448752251053894818.post-65221924656825753192011-12-25T09:33:29.358+00:002011-12-25T09:33:29.358+00:00There was a time when I got fed up with St Fagans....There was a time when I got fed up with St Fagans. It didn't last long.

Last December we were there in the snow - completely magical. The houses are so much more "realistic" in the cold when the staff have to huddle round the fire and you huddle with them, chatting about the past.

I remember a St David's Day lecture on the composer Joseph Parry and his opera "Blodwen". Given in Welsh, of course. The only bits in English were from Parry's diary as he didn't speak Welsh. It didn't matter in the slightest, hardly understanding a word of it.Webrarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02975303713948128132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2448752251053894818.post-37253936118372244692011-12-25T09:17:59.930+00:002011-12-25T09:17:59.930+00:00A grand day out!

They need more workers, not just interpreters, using skills not just showing them. More interesting for the visitors, invaluable for society.gzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08034777779347889773noreply@blogger.com
